Biography

Bina Paul is a respected Indian film editor with a career spanning several decades. A graduate of the Indian Film and Television Institute with a specialisation in editing, she has edited more than 50 feature films and collaborated with filmmakers including G. Aravindan, John Abraham, and P. N. Menon.

A recipient of two National Awards and numerous state honours, she has contributed not only to film editing but also to the culture of film exhibition and appreciation in India.

She has served as Artistic Director of the International Film Festival of Kerala and the Kerala International Documentary and Short Film Festival, helping shape their international standing. She has also served on juries at major international film festivals, including Locarno, Durban, Morocco, and Berlin.

She is a co-chair of NETPAC and has been actively involved in the promotion, preservation, and critical understanding of Asian cinema. She also directs and produces documentaries.

Her approach to editing is rooted in artistic conviction, rigorous discussion, and respect for the filmmaker’s larger vision. She views the editor’s intervention as something that should ultimately serve the film rather than draw attention to itself.
